Be patient with all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves.
-Rainer Maria Rilke
People often seek therapy because they have a hard time solving emotional and relational problems on their own. When their own methods and attempts do not produce the desired results they might courageously resort to talking to a professional therapist. In my experience, without the proper guidance many of us have difficulty accessing the parts of ourselves who have unresolved pain and baggage from the past. These parts of us have been suppressed and hidden from view by other self-protective parts of our personality. The purpose of therapy is to help individuals, couples, and families have greater access to these parts of themselves so that it is possible to work through “unfinished psychological business” which may exist inside of us without our conscious awareness.
In a safe, non-judgmental environment it is possible to become more aware of these unresolved challenges from the past and accept and embrace whatever comes up to the surface. Based upon the therapeutic principles and practices of Internal Family Systems Therapy and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, we will explore your personal landscape with reverence and compassion. Using these systems as our guides, we WILL transform the old into the new, unburdening those parts still trapped in the darkness of the past, creating greater freedom, vitality and creativity than existed before.
Not every form of therapy is meant to address every life difficulty. That being said, however, these therapeutic modalities have a wide and versatile range of applications. I work mostly with clients who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, emotional issues related to grieving and/or illness, and issues related to their careers. I work with individuals, couples and families and have evening and weekend hours. Please contact me for an initial phone consult.
